Fake Random Count is a module that shows a fictitious but yet highly credible integer counter on Joomla 3 sites. The module configuration supports pseudo-random patterns of up to 32 elements, each element holding the delay (in seconds.miliseconds) before next increment and the increment value (delta). Increment value can also be negative for decrementing sequences simulation or you can combine positive and negative deltas in the same pattern (oscillating counter). Each module instance can be configurerd individually even if dispayed on the same page.

The counter values are always consistent, doesn't matter when you open the page or resume your computer / handheld from suspend state - the counter will show same values on all computers, as if they were requested from server.

Module configuration is quite straightforward:

1. Module

  • Text Before - text displayed on the top of the counter. Safe HTML is supported, i.e. the text can contain pictures, links, etc. and can be formatted with styles and custom layout. You can also place a special {rc-counter} placeholder anywhere in the text and counter will be displayed within the text flow.
  • Text After - text displayed at the bottom of the counter. Safe HTML is supported. If left empty, "text after" will be ignored.
  • Leading Symbol - one or more characters to be displayed along with the counter. Normally used for currency symbols or codes. Will be ignored if left empty.
  • Leading Symbol Position - select "none" to hide the leading symbol, "leading" / "trailing" - display the symbol before / after the counter.

2. Counter options

  • Start Value - the value used as increasing series initial value.
  • Anchor Date and Time - date and time used to calculate current counter value at any moment. Increment series is simulated as if it were started on the date selected and counting from the value entered in "Start Value" field. The more time passes since anchor date the bigger difference from start value is displayed (except for oscillating patterns where the sum of all values in pattern is equal to zero).
  • Minimum value - if current counter value is below the minimum, minimum value will be displayed instead. Random count module will never display negative values, by default minimum value = 0 is applied.
  • Maximum value - if current counter value is above the maximum, maximum value will be displayed instead.
  • Increase pattern - up to 32 time / value pairs defining counter increments. This is up to you to choose intervals and increment deltas, so that it looks natural for the matters you are counting in the module. Setting up a long pseudo-random series will provide an almost perfect random-looking behavior. All increment deltas must be integer numbers, negative deltas are also allowed.

3. Format and styles

  • Thousands Separator
    - None: no separator
    - Language default: using current display language standards (default)
    - Space: use space as thousand separator
    - Comma: use comma as thousand separator
    - Point: use point as thousand separator
  • Counter font - select counter font familiy
  • Counter font size - select counter font size
  • Counter font weight - select counter font weight
  • Counter Alignment - select alignment, only has effect if the counter is displayed in a dedicated DIV (not in "text before" flow)
  • More Counter Styles - additional CSS rules (e.g. color, font-variant, font-style, etc.). Each rule must be ended by ";"
  • Leading Symbol Style(s) - CSS override rules for leading symbol. Each rule must be ended by ";"

"Inherit" options will use corresponding style of surrounding elements. May be useful if the counter is embedded in text.
